Abstract

Currently, energy demand worldwide has inflated the prices of conventional fuels, so it is essential to identify alternative solutions. One such solution involves hydrogen (H2), which can be used directly as a fuel or an additive for internal combustion engines (ICE). This work aims to review the hydrogen applications related to fuels and/or additives in ignition engines. For instance, hydrated vegetable oil (HVO) can be considered a possible substitute for biodiesel, while synthetic fuels involve a high cost, mainly due to the production process. Furthermore, using H2 as an additive can offer benefits such as reducing pollutant emissions.
